NGC managing director Janaina Herrera was invited to present the NCF mobile health project in Rio in the “Ciudades Latinas” panel of the New Cities Summit (Paris, La Defense 14-16 May 2012).

The session, prepared by Avina and moderated by Ricky Burdett, Professor of Urban Studies at the London School of Economics, gathered representatives from leading NGOs of South America actively promoting a more inclusive, sustainable and transparent city:
– Mr. Jorge Luiz Numa Abrahao, President of the Ethos Institute of Business and Social Responsibility,
– Antonio Celia, CEO of Promigas and chairman of the board of Shakira’s foundation “pies descalzos”,
– Mariana Escorza from “Lima Como Vamos”.
The panelists explained how citizens can successfully engage with local governments and persuade them to commit to measurable targets and indicators for the improvement of their cities.
Janaina presented the mobile health project in the favela of Santa Marta (Rio) and explained how this pilot could help address current and future health challenges in other major emerging metropolises.
